Sabbat

A militant vampire sect pursuing the destruction of the Antediluvians through the Gehenna War.

Beliefs and aims

The Sabbat venerates Caine and regards the clan founders as ancient enemies whose domination must end. Its promised freedom is coupled to intense indoctrination and demands for collective devotion. Mortals are treated as prey, and rival Kindred organizations are condemned as obstacles or instruments of the ancients. Those claims describe Sabbat ideology rather than objective proof of its cosmology.

Identity and culture

Members seek to replace mortal ethical attachments with Paths of Enlightenment. Their identity emphasizes being vampires, belonging to the Sabbat, and following a Path ahead of clan loyalty. When clan origin is acknowledged, antitribu can be applied even to members of clans historically prominent in the sect.

Ritae maintain allegiance and shared purpose. The Vaulderie creates mutual Blood-based bonds; other ceremonies mark initiation, conflict, hunting, or spiritual discipline. Practices vary substantially by Path and region. Membership alone does not grant a character the effects of a rite or a substitute morality system.

Packs and leadership

The pack is the principal operational unit. Its priest combines spiritual guidance with much of the tactical leadership once associated with a Ductus. Packs may specialize in warfare, infiltration, supply, or other needs, and their members assume practical roles as circumstances require.

Bishops and Archbishops coordinate important domains and war efforts where they can enforce authority. Older titles persist unevenly as the organization becomes more decentralized. The identity or continued existence of an overall Regent is uncertain; do not treat a rumored leader as established fact.

The modern war

The Gehenna War is worldwide, not confined to one region. Losses to ancient enemies, hunter attacks, defections, and hostile sects have reduced the Sabbat’s numbers and territorial administration. Remaining domains often serve strategic or military purposes. These losses have intensified commitment in some survivors rather than creating a uniform retreat from fanaticism.

Use in a Chronicle

Sabbat antagonists can differ in doctrine, methods, and immediate objectives while sharing a dangerous rejection of ordinary human limits. Their supernatural abilities still require the relevant rules. Affiliation is setting information, not a package of free powers or automatic player-character eligibility.
