Speed of judgment when circumstances demand an immediate response.
Overview
Wits measures how quickly a character makes sense of a changing situation. It supports immediate judgment, improvisation, and choosing a response before time runs out. It is especially relevant when there is too little time for an extended investigation or carefully prepared argument.
Using the ratings
The examples below are original illustrations of relative capability, not automatic successes or new Difficulty rules. The pool, opposition, equipment, and circumstances still matter.
Ratings

| 1 dot | Work out an appropriate response after a noticeable pause. |
| 2 dots | React sensibly to an ordinary surprise. |
| 3 dots | Identify a promising response as a dangerous situation develops. |
| 4 dots | Adjust a plan immediately when an unexpected obstacle appears. |
| 5 dots | Recognize and exploit a fleeting opportunity almost as it emerges. |
