Philodox

Role in Garou society

Philodox weigh conduct against the Litany, precedent, evidence, and the demands of the present situation. One may emphasize compassion and context while another places greater weight on consistent rules. Their authority brings responsibility for decisions that affect more than themselves.

Within the pack

They mediate pack conflicts, investigate uncertain loyalties, and consider what a proposed course of action would justify or endanger. Judgment can guide a pack without replacing the agency of its other members.

Gifts

• Ancestral Conviction

  Add Honor to Persuasion pools against other Garou.

• Beast's Fealty

  Gain the obedience of one visible animal and communicate commands to it.

• Calcify

  Reinforce a physical feature.

• Command the Gathering

  Become the focus of creatures within sight or hearing, including those who do not understand your language.

• Fangs of Judgement

  Mark a visible enemy who previously harmed a pack member.

• Gaia's Candor

  Ask a question and determine whether the answer matches what the respondent believes.

• Geas

  Issue a spoken command in the subject’s presence.

• Indomitable Spirit

  Ignore impairment penalties while the Gift lasts.

• Oathbreaker's Bane

  Bind a promise made to you in person that the speaker understands and accepts.

• Porcupine's Reprisal

  After receiving Brawl or Melee damage, inflict Superficial Health damage on the attacker equal to Glory, capped at the damage you just suffered.

• Scent of the Past

  Smell an object or location to learn about past events there.

• Sense the True Form

  Smell whether someone is an ordinary human or a different kind of being.

• Strength of Purpose

  Roll Honor dice to restore one Superficial Willpower damage per success, or one Aggravated damage per two successes.

• Take the True Form

  Force a shapeshifter to return to its natural form using its normal transformation rules, then prevent further shifting for the winning margin in turns.

• Wyrm-Speech

  Attack through a roar or chant.

Rules

The moon phase at the First Change determines a Garou’s auspice. It informs their customary role and provides access to the associated Gifts; it is not a fixed personality or a prohibition on other skills.
