Health

Health measures how much physical injury a character can sustain. Its rating determines the number of boxes on the Health tracker; damage marks those boxes without reducing the underlying rating.

Overview

Generate maximum Health as 3 + Stamina + Misc. Misc is the sum of applicable effects that actually grant Health capacity. With Stamina 1–5 and no such effects, base Health is 4–8. A change that only adds dice, reduces damage, or heals existing wounds is not an extra Health box.

Direct Health bonuses

Resilience (Fortitude 1) adds your Fortitude rating to Health and is passive. Having Fortitude without this power does not grant that increase. Enduring Beasts (Fortitude 2, Animalism 1 amalgam) grants animals additional Health equal to the user's Fortitude for one scene; it is not a Health bonus for the vampire using it.

Indirect changes and borrowed powers

Draught of Endurance (Fortitude 4) can lend Fortitude and the donor's eligible powers, including Resilience if the donor knows it. Apply the granted Resilience using the applicable Fortitude rating, rather than treating every borrowed Fortitude dot as an unconditional bonus. Meat Shields (Fortitude 5) temporarily raises Fortitude by half the qualifying nearby mortals, rounded down, with at most five additional dots. It grants no new powers, but its increased rating can improve an already-known Resilience.

Vicissitude and Fleshcrafting can redistribute Physical Attribute dots, including Stamina, subject to their limits. Horrid Form supplies temporary Vicissitude changes. Account for an applicable Stamina change in the Stamina term rather than adding it again in Misc. Animal transformations use their own form rules; do not assume a fixed bonus for every shape.

Effects that do not add Health

Prowess from Pain explicitly leaves derived stats unchanged: increasing Stamina with it does not raise Health. Toughness reduces incoming Superficial damage; Defy Bane changes certain Aggravated damage to Superficial; Flesh of Marble can prevent damage. Valeren and vampiric mending restore damaged boxes. These effects are useful defenses, but none adds capacity by itself.

Damage and impairment

Track Superficial and Aggravated damage separately. When every Health box is marked, physical impairment normally imposes a two-die penalty on Physical tests. Further injury can convert Superficial marks to Aggravated damage. A fully Aggravated tracker has consequences determined by the character's nature and the harm involved; torpor, death, and Final Death are not interchangeable.

Supported capacity

Chargen supports a Health rating from 4 to 20. This is the application's tracker capacity, not a claim that the official rules impose a universal maximum of 20. Specific creatures and effects can require their own profile.

Loresheet Attribute bonuses

The Bahari benefit The Womb’s Blood can grant +2 Stamina until dawn and explicitly adds two Health. Xaviar’s Monstrous Bat adds one dot to each Physical Attribute, including Stamina, while the form applies. Count these through Stamina, not again as Misc. Low Clan’s similarly named Thick Hide protects against verbal provocation and does not add Health.
