Configure Chronicle rules

Find settings by game and category, control allowed content, and publish changes safely.

Navigate and save

Open Chronicles → your server → Chronicle settings. You will see only settings sections you may manage.
Choose a section in the grouped navigation. On a small screen, use the Settings section selector.
Expand a category, or use Find a setting, Category, and Content source to narrow the controls.
Change the settings, enter a reason where requested, and select Preview changes to inspect the proposed differences.
Select Save this section to publish that section. Previewing alone does not save changes.

Groups start collapsed. Search opens matching groups, and errors open their affected group. Each save creates a settings revision; an old browser tab cannot silently overwrite a newer revision.

Sources and homebrew

Sources & homebrew sits under Set up the Chronicle. Its entries are categorized by audience and content type: Vampire, Garou, Ghoul, or shared content, followed by collections, publications, and individual definitions.

Allow / enabled	Permit the entry, subject to its game, category, collection, source, and other requirements.
Deny / disabled	Do not permit the entry under this configuration.
Require approval	Keep the choice reviewable rather than granting unrestricted use.

An individual Allow does not bypass a disabled parent game, subsystem, collection, or required source. Homebrew must also have the necessary publication and Chronicle approval for its exact revision.

Filter to the game or content category you want to adjust.
For a broad change, use Enable matching content, Disable matching content, or Require approval. Inspect the active filters first: the bulk action applies to matching content controls.
Review important exceptions individually, then preview and save.
Use the Chronicle's Rules & allowed content page to inspect the resulting policy.

Automatic inclusion of newly discovered official content and newly approved homebrew are separate choices. They affect inclusion when a new settings revision is saved; they do not rewrite the settings already attached to an accepted character.

Creation and applications

Set required concept, biography and portrait details, starting Advantage and Flaw allowances, free specialties, and starting Gift and Rite counts.
Configure extra starting XP separately from creation-package XP.
Use Creation methods by character type to change instructions, step order, and Attribute/Skill distributions. Enter individual comma-separated ratings and unique step positions; enable the method and save.
Set application limits, active-character limits, required approval count, self-approval, resubmission, withdrawal, and documented exceptions.
Choose automatic acceptance only if wanted. Staff review is the default, and unsupported validation can still keep an application in review.

Game-specific organization

Vampire abilities group powers under their Discipline and by level. Clanless choices sit beneath Clans. Advantages keep Background-related Merits and Flaws with the Background; unrelated Merits and Flaws are separate alphabetical groups, and Loresheet benefits appear with their Loresheet.

Havens and Coteries belong to Vampire; Caerns and Packs belong to Werewolf. The Ghoul settings area is separate, while Mortal uses the ordinary sheet without supernatural features. Disabled game sections can still be configured before enabling the game.

Play and advancement

Enable dice and the game-specific procedures your server will use.
Choose who may confirm scene facts; staff confirmation is the default.
Set Re-roll window (hours). The default is 24 hours, measured from the original roll. Changes apply to future rolls.
Use Customize Chronicle trackers to set display and editing permissions.
Configure XP awards, award limits, advancement prices, and whether players can advance their own sheets.
Guest participation is disabled by default. Enabling it still requires Discord membership and individual permits.

What happens to existing characters

Accepted sheets retain their accepted rules configuration. New submissions use the current published configuration. Changing server settings does not automatically rewrite existing character choices.

Change a setting from Discord

Use /chronicle-settings to obtain links to permitted sections. Use /chronicle-setting with an autocompleted setting key, a value, and a reason for supported scalar settings. Role assignments use the website's role selectors.
